How The Financial Assistance Process Works

All new students applying for university, federal and state financial aid must submit both 1) Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and 2) College Scholarship Service/ Financial Aid Profile which can be obtained from any high school guidance office or college financial aid office. To File the FAFSA on-line now, Click Here

Or complete your applications over the internet at www.collegeboard.org (College Scholarship Service).

The FAFSA and the CSS/Financial Aid Profile should be submitted to the respective processing agencies (each form contains the proper mailing envelope). The College Scholarship Service processes the Financial Aid Profile and forwards it to the campus within six weeks. The FAFSA is processed by the federal processor and a Student Aid Report (SAR) is generated and mailed to the student. This SAR may be used to correct application data or add college codes.

The applications for financial aid are considered after you have been accepted for admission to the university and your financial aid forms have been received by the campus. Financial assistance decisions are made on a rolling and funds available basis so it is important to apply early. For maximum consideration of aid, these processed forms must be received by the C.W. Post Financial Assistance Office no later than March 1 of each year.

Once the Financial Assistance Committee has evaluated your request, a statement of financial assistance known as the financial aid package letter is sent directly to your home address, listing the amount of assistance available to you.

All financial aid recipients must notify the Financial Assistance Office of their decision, in writing, within the required response time noted in the financial aid package letter.

Throughout this process, students and their families should take care to complete all forms completely and clearly, and pay careful attention to deadlines.

Upperclassmen must file the Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) no later than March 1 each year. These renewal applications are mailed directly to the student's home each December. Applications can also be obtained from the Financial Assistance Office on campus.
