Accelerated B.S./M.S. in Accountancy Fact Sheet

What is the Accelerated B.S./M.S.?

This program allows a student to combine a B.S. and M.S. in Accountancy in a five-year, integrated program. Students may take up to two courses (six credits) as part of their B.S. requirements. In the graduate curriculum, students select a Professional Accounting, Taxation, or Information Systems concentration.

Why should I complete the accelerated program?

  1. You can complete the M.S. in Accountancy in as few as 24 credits beyond the B.S. requirements (circumstances vary).
  2. The two-year experience requirement for CPA licensure in New York is reduced to one year.
  3. You will be eligible for AICPA membership.
  4. The additional knowledge gained can be applied to your work.
  5. Advanced degree holders and candidates with more education have higher pass rates on the Uniform CPA Examination.
  6. You will be able to move to other states that have the 150-hour requirement without additional education (already 43 states and territories as of November, 2003, including New Jersey and Connecticut).

How do I get started?

  1. Complete a “Declaration Form” and return it to the undergraduate academic advisor, or to the School of Professional Accountancy main office. This can be done at any time.
  2. Complete an “Application for Graduate Admission” form and return it to the undergraduate academic advisor, or to the main office of the School of Professional Accountancy. This must be done during the semester immediately before the semester you will complete your B.S. in Accountancy requirements.
  3. Take the GMAT examination. (It is recommended that you study for this exam and take it during the summer before your senior year.)
  4. Register for up to two graduate classes in the semester you are completing your B.S. requirements.

Is financial aid available?

A limited number of internal scholarships are available for qualified full-time graduate students. A limited number of graduate assistantships also are available. Additional scholarships may be available from other sources.
