Matriculation Policy
A student is matriculated into the School of Business when the candidate
meets all of the requirements for admission into the Master of Business
Administration (MBA) Program.
Grades
Credit is granted for courses completed with the grade of
A, B+, B, C+, or C. The grade of F signifies failure. INC indicates
that some portion of the course requirements have not been completed.
W symbolizes a student initiated withdrawal without penalty; UW
indicates an unauthorized withdrawal; and WF is withdrawal with
a record of failure.
The grade INC will be
retained on the transcript along with the final earned grade and
the date the work was completed. If an unusual extension of time
becomes necessary to complete the work, it must be requested by
the student, in writing, and be approved by the Chairperson and
the Dean. Students exhibiting an excessive rate of unexcused absences
may receive a grade of WF or UW for the semester.
Incomplete Grades
Under special circumstances, a faculty member may assign a grade
of Incomplete (I). Incompletes must be removed within six weeks
from the start of the following semester in which the Incomplete
was issued. An Incomplete will be issued by written agreement between
the student and faculty member.
Quality-Point Index
The University's quality-point index is employed to determine the
average grade of a student. The grade "A" corresponds
to an index number of 4; "B+" to 3.5; "B" to
3; "C+" to 2.5; "C" to 2; and "F"
to O (zero).
Attendance
Attendance by all graduate students must be regular. Regula-tions
concerning attendance in a particular course are at the discretion
of the instructor and are announced in the opening class session.
Responsibility for class attendance rests with the student.
In all cases the work
missed through absence must be made up. However, permission to make
up such work is not automatic and is given at the discretion of
the instructor.
The University reserves
the right to exclude from a graduate program, course or final examination
a student whose attendance in classes is unsatisfactory to his/her
instructors or to the Dean.
Academic Standards
and Grades
Students are expected to maintain at least a 3.0 Grade Point Average
(GPA) in the MBA Program. Students who do not maintain this standard
will have their performance reviewed by the Academic Standing Committee
which will then make a recommendation to the Dean concerning the
student's potential to successfully complete the MBA program. Final
disposition of such cases will be made by the Dean of the College
of Management on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.
Leave of Absence
A student who chooses not to register for courses in a given semester
must request a leave of absence, in writing, from the Dean of the
College of Management. A student who is absent from the program
for one year must reapply for admission to the Program.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as "an act or instance of stealing or
passing off as one's own the ideas or words of another." It
is a practice which is not only unacceptable, but which is to be
condemned in the strongest terms possible on the basis of moral,
educational, and legal grounds.
Under the present policy
of Long Island University, the offense of plagiarism may be punishable
by a range of penalties up to and including failure in the course
and expulsion from the University.
