B.A. in History/M.S. in Adolescence Education (Grades 7-12): Social Studies

The accelerated degree program prepares you for New York State teaching certification as a middle and high school social studies teacher. Upon successful completion of the required courses, you will be awarded both the Bachelor of Arts in History and the Master of Science in Adolescence Education (grades 7-12): Social Studies in just five years – a full year less than if the degrees were pursued separately. Administered jointly by C.W. Post’s School of Education and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the program draws on the resources of one of New York’s top-rated teacher education institutions and a well established, widely acclaimed center for liberal arts education. Required credits for this program range from 147 to 150.

  • The Bachelor of Arts in History program covers the fundamentals of European and American civilization, from the ancient world to modern America, with opportunities to explore specialty subjects such as the Middle East, women in America and the Holocaust. Students in this major receive the full benefit of C.W. Post’s comprehensive undergraduate liberal arts education.

  • The Master of Science in Adolescence Education (Grades 7-12): Social Studies program is designed to educate and train new teachers who possess a strong academic background in core subjects. This comprehensive program covers the theory and practice of teaching middle and high school, examining the social, psychological and curricular implications of modern education and the organization and function of today’s schools and school districts.
