General Information


The C.W. Post Curriculum & Instruction Department offers one of the area's most comprehensive teacher preparation programs.  More than 40 degree programs (bachelor's, master's, and 5 year bachelor's/master's) focus on various stages of a child's development: infancy, pre-school, early childhood, childhood, middle and high school.  Students are mentored throughout their entire program by expert faculty who oversee their student teaching assignments, portfolio development, peer and self evaluations, and leadership experiencesa comprehensive combination rarely found at most institutions.

Extension in Middle Childhood Education

Teachers who are certified for Adolescence Education (Grades 7 to 12) can broaden their qualifications to cover Middle Childhood Education by adding Grades 5 and 6 to their certification.  Teachers who complete this 6 credit certification extension may teach their academic concentration to children as young as 5th and 6th grade in schools that have begun subject-specific classes at that level.

Bilingual Education Extension Programs

Certified teachers may broaden their certification to cover additional subject areas, grades or populations by enrolling in an extension program. The C.W. Post Bilingual Extension program will prepare certified teachers to work with students whose first language is not English. This program is open to students who already possess a bachelor's and/or master's degree as well as teacher certification. These 12-15 credit Extension Programs are available to teachers already certified in the following areas:
