Overview
Our School of Health Professions and Nursing offers a wide range
of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in medical biology,
nursing, nutrition, forensic science, health information management
and radiologic technology. Our students benefit from intense classroom
studies, and didactic, laboratory and clinical experiences. The
many internship opportunities provide the real-life experiences
that are so crucial to practicing in today's work environment. The Department of Biomedical Sciences offers bachelor of science
degrees in Clinical Laboratory Sciences and Health Technology, as
well as master of science degrees in Medical Biology and Clinical
Laboratory Management. These programs enable students to qualify
for the American Society of Clinical Pathologists examinations in
Medical Technology Categories or the diplomate in Clinical Laboratory
Management. This department also offers the bachelor of science
degree in Forensic Science. Students in the Forensic Science program
can qualify to sit for national certification exams sponsored by
the American Board of Criminalistics and the College of Forensic
Examiners Institute. Our M.S. in Cardiovascular Prefusion is one
of only three in the country.
The School of Health Professions and Nursing also offers the specially
accredited B.S. program in Health Information Management.
The Department of Nursing offers a B.S. in Nursing, and two M.S. degrees in Advanced
Practice Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner, Advance Practice
Nursing/Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nursing Education. Our programs are accredited by
the Commission on Collegiate Nuring Education.
The Nutrition Department offers academic programs that are accredited
by the American Dietetic Association. Students can obtain a B.S.
or M.S. in Nutrition and enroll in a one-year post-baccalaureate
Dietetic Internship, which prepares students to sit for the RD (Registered
Dietitian) examination. They can also earn a combined B.S./M.S.
in Nutrition in only five years in our accelerated program. The Radiologic Technology program offers one of only two baccalaureate
programs in New York State leading to a B.S. degree in Radiologic
Technology. Practical experience is a vital component of our programs. Students
participate in internships at well-known hospitals such as North
Shore University Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
as well as at senior citizen facilities, pharmaceutical companies
and many others. When our students graduate, they are well equipped to pursue many
exciting health careers. For example, nurse practitioner and nutrition
graduates often enter private practice, while many obtain permanent
positions at major health care facilities. Graduates of the Clinical
Laboratory Science, Health Information Management and Radiologic
Technology Programs find employment at area institutions.
