A small flight of brick steps on the eastern wall of the garden leads to
the former double row Magnolia Walk. Originally backed by sheared cedar
hedges, the Magnolia Walk featured beautiful Chinese magnolia trees edged
by dwarf English boxwoods. The walk extended from the childrenís wing of
the mansion and ended in the center of the rose arbor. Considering these
trees were fully grown when planted more than 70 years ago, they eventually
became diseased and had to be removed. However, one magnolia offshoot remains
today from the original walk. A wishing well that was once owned by E.F.
Hutton also stands in the center of that location. (Photo from Trees and
