Digital Initiatives Department and Art Slide Library
B. Davis Schwartz Memorial Library - Room 109 on the lower level
The Art Slide Library's collection of more than 100,000 images represents a broad
spectrum of art media dating from prehistoric times to the present. Members of
the staff,
who have expertise in both art history and library science, can assist
with art research and providing images. In addition the staff can offer guidance
with an array of print and electronic resources. The collection is open to all
faculty members and students fulfilling course assignments. Faculty and
students may borrow slides for limited periods of time. Please see the
attached policy for specifics regarding collection use, circulation, and
production of slides.
The Digital Initiatives arm of the department was established in 2004 in recognition
of the growing demands that new technology makes on the accessibility of information.
The mission of the Digital Initiatives Department is to explore, develop and
implement digital projects that will convert individual parts of the university's
academic resources into digital collections of permanent research value.
To
pursue these goals, the department's focus is twofold:
- Digitization of significant research materials owned by the university
- Development of websites to enhance access to these resources
