C.W. Post to Offer “Green” Curriculum to Freshman in Honors Program
Brookville, NY -- Today’s college students are concerned with more than just their GPAs. The state of the economy and the environment have become deciding factors when choosing career paths. Earth-conscious graduates are seeking “green-collar” jobs that will allow them to earn a healthy salary and, at the same time, implement measures to sustain the planet. To help students become a part of this global initiative, the C.W. Post Campus at Long Island University is offering 30 eco-friendly college freshman the opportunity to enroll in “Honors Green,” an environmental program that prepares students for careers focused on a greener future.
Beginning in September 2009 new freshman who are accepted into the Campus’ nationally renowned Honors Program can take six environmentally focused bachelor’s level courses in literature, philosophy, geography and film as well as a lab course in earth and environmental science. In addition to these innovative studies, students will have opportunities to intern with local conservation businesses and visit pristine national parks.
A variety of conscientious jobs are emerging in this new era and Honors Green will help springboard students into careers in many industries from political science to public relations. “If issues such as global warming, recycling, conserving energy and air pollution create a drive to be part of the solution, then this is a great place to start the journey,” said Dr. Joan Digby, director of the C.W. Post Honors Program.
"We are all tightly connected to the health of our planet,” Dr. Digby added. “Honors Green will teach students the important associations between people, culture and nature, and will help them discover new ways to contribute to a more eco-friendly world."
Freshmen interested in applying to the Honors Green program must send their name, home address, phone number, e-mail address, high school, current GPA and SAT or ACT scores in an e-mail to joan.digby@liu.edu with an attached essay.
