Brookville, NY – Eight residence halls on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University will be upgraded with new state-of-the-art security cameras, thanks to a $10,000 state government award secured by New York State Senator Craig M. Johnson of the 7th Senate District. The cameras are part of a campus-wide upgrade of the C.W. Post Public Safety Department’s security camera system.

“No one should live in fear -- especially when in pursuit of higher education,” said Senator Johnson. “I am proud to have secured this funding that will help keep one of Long Island's premier college campuses safer and more secure.”

“The safety and well-being of our students and employees continues to be the highest priority for the University,” said Dr. Paul Forestell, provost of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. “I would like to thank Senator Johnson for his effort to take a proactive approach toward maintaining a secure place for students to live and learn.”

Senator Johnson will visit the C.W. Post Campus at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 to tour the Public Safety Department and meet with Provost Forestell and students who reside on campus.

The C.W. Post Campus houses approximately 1,900 students in various accommodations. Residents of each building are issued an individually coded identification card that allows them to enter.

C.W. Post’s Public Safety Department operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and receives regular training in emergency response and security measures. Public Safety Officers on the C.W. Post Campus are licensed by the State of New York and are trained, certified and registered pursuant to the New York State Security Guard Act of 1992. The Public Safety Department administers a comprehensive public safety program, including escort services, fire prevention exercises, an emergency information system, and a network of sirens and loudspeakers in the event of outdoor emergencies. The Department of Public Safety works closely with the Old Brookville and Old Westbury Police Department to ensure the safety of the Campus community.
