Open House for New Doctorate in
Interdisciplinary Educational Studies at C.W. Post

The C.W. Post School of Education will hold an information open house on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 about the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Interdisciplinary Educational Studies offered at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.

The open house will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. Tilles Center is located on the west side of the campus.

The doctoral program in Interdisciplinary Educational Studies is the only one of its kind in New York state and prepares individuals for positions as principals, superintendents, administrators, researchers, curriculum developers, professors, policy analysts and educational consultants. This innovative 51-credit program focuses on Pre-K through 16 education (elementary, secondary and post-secondary) and applies an interdisciplinary approach to school reform, curriculum development, educational management and executive leadership. (This program does not lead to certification).

Students choose from two concentrations: Teaching and Learning, which focuses on curriculum development and teaching across all subjects and all levels of schooling; or Educational Leadership, which prepares students for positions of administrative leadership within a school or school district.

The 51-credit program offers a convenient approach to doctoral study because coursework is conducted in the evenings at the campus and students enter as a cohort each Fall.

Core Courses include “Philosophy of Science and Interdisciplinary Approaches to Educational Studies,” “Multiple Perspectives on Educational Policy Analysis and the History of Education,” “Psychological, Sociological and Cultural Aspects of Human Development” and “School and Community: Policy and Practices.”

For students choosing the Teaching and Learning track, courses include “Collaborative Team Models in Education,” “Facilitating Transitions Throughout the Educational Process,” “Bilingual and Second Language Acquisition” and “Technology-Enhanced Teaching and Learning.”

The Educational Leadership track offers several courses including “Educational Reform: An Interdisciplinary Theoretical Perspective,” “Perspectives on Leadership, Restructuring and Teacher Empowerment,” “Seminar in Fiscal, Legal and Human Resource Issues in School Renewal and Reform” and “Critical Issues and Trends in Pre-K – 16 Education.”

Applications to the program are being accepted from January 15 to March 16 for the Fall 2010 semester. The admissions application deadline is March 16 for the Fall 2010 semester.
