C.W. Post Equestrian Team
The C.W. Post Equestrian Team is a co-educational sport whose governing body is the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. (www.ihsainc.com) The format of the IHSA has made it possible for college students of various skill levels and financial status, to compete on a “level playing field”. The C.W. Post Equestrian Team competes in Zone 3 Region 1 against neighboring schools from Long Island and Connecticut.

Membership
The C.W. Post Equestrian Team is open to any undergraduate or as a graduate student you must. However in order to compete you must be a full time undergraduate student or have participated in I.H.S.A. shows as an undergraduate. This is a NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY team. Beginners and experienced riders are all encouraged to join. Riders with experience will be evaluated and put into a lesson group best suiting their ability level.
Competition
At shows, riders will compete against other students at an equivalent level. The levels of competition range from a Walk/Trot division designed for the beginner riders with little or no riding experience, up to the Open Division, set up for those riders who have previously competed at the 3’6” level on USAE show circuit, with many divisions in between. A unique quality about the IHSA competition is that no rider may use his or her own horse. All riders compete on horses supplied by the Host College and are randomly drawn by lottery prior to the start of the competition. The shows take place on scheduled Saturdays and/or Sundays throughout the fall and spring semesters all over Long Island and Connecticut.
Lessons/Practice
In order to compete safely and effectively all IHSA participants are required to take at least one lesson a week for an hour. These lessons are given at the barn conveniently located on campus. Although only 1 lesson is required it is strongly recommended by the coach that all members practice as much as possible. There are also special arrangements made for those riders who own and ride their own horses daily. Lessons take place from September to December and then from mid January until after the National Horse Show in May.
Facility
